Police Officer Marino Chavez was promoted to patrol sergeant at Bay City Police Department’s promotion ceremony, with Police Chief Christella Rodriguez officiating last Wednesday.
City staff, co-workers from the police department, and family and friends were present to witness the occasion.
During the ceremony, Rodriguez spoke about the characteristics of an effective leader.
She described Sergeant Marino Chavez as “humble” and able to transition to take charge when necessary.
She added that Chavez was a good fit for the police department’s leadership team.
Chavez is from Fairchilds and graduated from Needville High School in 2010.
He is a graduate of Wharton County Junior College Police Academy and holds an associate degree in criminal justice from Wharton County Junior College.
Chavez has nine years with the Bay City Police Department, has been a team member of the department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team, served as a field training officer, and has worked in supervision as a corporal for the last seven years.
Chavez has an Advanced Certificate from TCOLE and has attended numerous hours of leadership training such as LEMIT Command Staff Leadership Series and the Texas Police Association- Law Enforcement Leadership Conference.
Chavez is the parent of two children, who mean the world to him.
Chavez expressed his excitement about taking on this higher leadership role and is ready to take on more responsibilities.
Chavez said he always wants and is willing to help people, so he will always strive to serve his Bay City community and his law enforcement family to the best of his ability.
His goal is to be a great role model for his children and the younger generation of officers.
