Unofficial final vote totals for contested races show Rick DeLeon defeated Philip Hester for Matagorda County Sheriff in the Republican Primary Tuesday.
DeLeon's total was 3,243 votes or 64%, while Hester had 1,756 votes, or 35%.
DeLeon will face unopposed Democratic sheriff candidate Aaron Green in November.
In the Matagorda County Attorney race, Matthew Sloan defeated incumbent Jennifer Chau.
Sloan's vote total was 2,567 or 53%, while Chau had 2,202 votes, or 46%.
In the Precinct 6 Constable race, Bill Orton defeated incumbent Ricky Bort.
Orton had 417 votes, or 56%, while Bort had 316 votes, or 43%.
In the Republican 23rd District Judge race – long held by Ben Hardin - John Maher was the winner with 2,432 votes, or 54% to Colleen Manske's 2,021, or 45.39%.
In the State Rep. District 30 race in the Republican Primary, A.J. Louderback led the four-way race over Jeff Bauknight, Vanessa F. Hicks-Callaway and Bret Baldwin.
Louderback had 2,073 votes, 44.71%, Bauknight, 1,691, 36.47%, Callaway, 449, 9.68%, and Baldwin, 424. 9.14%
The winner of the Republican primary will face unopposed Democrat Stephanie Bassham in the November general election.
The incumbent, Rep. Geanie W. Morrison, did not seek reelection in 2024.
