WHARTON COUNTY – Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on State highway 60 near Phillip Street.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates, at approximately 8:23 a.m., a 2010 Toyota Tundra was traveling southbound at an unsafe speed, causing it to side skid into the northbound lane.
A 2023 GMC Yukon traveling northbound was subsequently struck by the Toyota , causing the Toyota to catch fire.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Oscar Abelenda III, 29, of Katy, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Wharton County Justice of the Peace.
The driver of the GMC, identified as George Harrison, 63, of Bay City, was transported to Oak Bend Hospital in Wharton with suspected serious injuries.
The passenger of the GMC, identified as Donna Harrison, 71, of Bay City, was pronounced deceased at the Oak Bend Hospital in Wharton by medical staff.
