Tenaris awarded 15 Matagorda County High School seniors with scholarships totaling $196,000 at an awards ceremony May 22.
The ceremony, held at Tenaris’s Bay City facility, included the presentation of a $60,000
Student of the Year scholarship, six Merit Awards at $20,000 each, and eight runners-up scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,000.
“As you work to fulfill your career aspirations, don’t stop being curious,” said Luca Zanotti, Tenaris US President.
“Lean on the inspirations that have guided your high school journey, closing with exceptional academics, and take those learnings into the next phase. I applaud your hard work and accomplishments,” Zanotti added.
“And, consider Tenaris, it’s rewarding to see scholarship recipients return to their home county and among our team.”
Abigail Padron from Palacios High School was honored with the Student of the Year.
Padron plans to attend Sam Houston State University and major in criminal justice.
“I want to be a lawyer. I want to be a voice for the people coming here and to help with the growth of this county,” said Padron, who said her family has been her biggest motivation over the years, and she plans to return to Matagorda County.
A big thank you to the company for giving back to the students. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
The six Merit Award winners were recognized for their outstanding academic performance and for their pursuit of careers in a STEM-related field: Emily Reyes and Alyssa Castro from Bay City High
School; Gabriel Hernandez from Palacios High School; Ava Hickl from Tidehaven High School; and Grace Gibbens and Cadence Andersen from Van Vleck High School.
“It is an honor to serve this county as its CEO and to witness firsthand the pride and dedication that our industrial partners take in making Matagorda County an even better place for our families,” said Matagorda County Judge Bobby Seiferman.
“Tenaris exemplifies that dedication as it provides regional commerce, employment and educational opportunities for this county’s youth,” he added.
“Thank you Tenaris for recognizing the excellence of our local school districts and students. And congratulations scholarship recipients on a job well done. Best wishes on your future endeavors.”
