Bay City man arrested in special op

A 36-year-old Bay City man was arrested on a prohibited weapons charge at his residence as part of a special operation involving Bay City police, Homeland Security and ATF June 12.
On May 16, Detective Robert Pierce was contacted by Homeland Security in reference to a package that had been intercepted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The package contained a prohibited weapon part capable of converting a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic weapon.
The package was addressed to be delivered to the 1600 block of Highland in Bay City.
Pierce began an investigation and worked closely with agents from Homeland Security, and Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) to set up a special operation to have the package delivered to the address in what they called a “controlled delivery.”
At about 12:14 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, the package was delivered to the residence.
The recipient, Dustin L. Fehmel, 36, of Bay City, opened the package and then a search warrant was served on his residence where other prohibited weapons and prohibited materials were found.
Fehmel was arrested for possessing prohibited weapons and transported to the Matagorda County Jail.
At this time, there is no reason to believe there is any threat or ongoing danger to the general public.
The case is still under investigation and more charges are likely pending.
Anyone with information can call Detective Pierce at 979-245-8500.
