Fire destroyed a vacant house at 155 Janice at about 5:25 p.m. Sunday, June 23.
The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office, the Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and the Fire Marshal responded and the fire department identified heavy fire involvement.
Bay City VFD requested assistance from Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department and Markham Volunteer Fire Department.
The fire departments fought the fire for three hours before it was extinguished, Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury, but did not require transport to the hospital.
Damage is estimated to be about $70,000, Shook said.
The fire is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office and the Bay City Fire Marshal.
