Bay City police officers were sent to 2901 Hamman Road on a report of a small child walking in the parking lot unsupervised shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 12.
Fire Marshal Dan Shook arrived on location first and met with the complainant and the child.
Officers took the child back to the apartment complex office, where management identified the child and provided officers with the identity of the child’s parent.
Officers went to the 4900 block of Nichols and contacted the mother, Pleasant L. Byrd, 22, of Bay City. After further investigation, Child Protective Services was notified.
Byrd was arrested and taken to the Matagorda County Jail.
She was filed on for abandon/endanger a child criminal negligence, reports show.
