I can’t believe it’s getting toward the middle of August.
School is starting for kiddos and so is almost everything else that matters.
For those who know me, the start of football means roaming the sidelines trying to get that right action shot.
My main problem in capturing Friday Night Lights is making sure I take plenty of photos while the sun is still up.
Another problem is not all stadium lights are equal.
A winning possibility in August and September, but not so much for the rest of the season when the sun starts setting around six.
Then the photos I take are less likely to be the ones I use on the sports pages Sunday and Monday.
Not enough light means the f stop is open and the shutter speed slow, which means the photos come out with a soft focus – if a focus at all.
Anyway, this season will mean taking a stick with me.
Remember my broke leg, well it healed and I’ve gone through
months of physical therapy.
That’s helped a lot, but a lot of walking is a problem. Thus, a walking stick is in order.
I’m not complaining because I am walking again and the stick is hardly a hindrance.
After spending the better part of 10 weeks bed bound with the busted femur, I am delighted to be walking again.
And rest of the Reddell clan is delighted to have me sharing the load.
Precious little certainly, compared to the people I share my life with.
Some months ago, Jessica and MaLinda purchased a stationary bike.
I wasn’t interested.
Most of my years at this residence – we’ve lived here 17 years – have been spent walking every morning, usually with dogs.
Once I was done with the leg ordeal, I was back walking.
But the long slog through this summer’s rainy days and weeks and the accompanying swarms of mosquitoes have made me reassess the bike.
I’m now on it daily and watching a movie or, briefly, the Olympics.
I miss walking, but I don’t miss wading in water or having to bathe in Off – those varmints always know how to find the unsprayed part of your body.
So I’m set for another football season and, by the way, the Sentinel is ready for another round of our football picks panel.
