The cause of a fire at a vacant Van Vleck house Aug. 30 was listed as undetermined, Fire Marshal Dan Shook reported.
The Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office and Van Vleck Volunteer Fire Department were sent to the house fire at 185 8th St, Van Vleck, and deputies realized the house was inside Bay City limits.
Bay City Police Department, Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and Bay City Fire Marshal were then dispatched.
The fire was brought under control within about a half hour, but crews continued to battle hot spots for another two hours.
Shook said no cause of the fire can be determined, but there have been reports of homeless people entering the structure.
Shook is continuing his investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Bay City Fire Marshal at 979-318-7130.
