A 42-year-old Van Vleck man was arrested on suspicion of the manufacture and delivery of methamphetamine following surveillance and a subsequent traffic stop Sept. 21.
Bay City PD received information regarding a suspicious greenish/silver in color Chrysler 300 occupied by a black male who was parked at the South Texas Inn motel, 1121 Avenue F, for several hours.
At about 7:45 p.m., narcotics officers began surveilling the location and vehicle in question, reports show.
Within minutes, officers observed several different subjects approach the black male sitting in the vehicle and quick exchanges were made.
This activity is consistent with the trafficking of narcotics, officers said.
During their surveillance, officers observed the vehicle leave the location.
Narcotics officers continued surveillance on the vehicle.
Officers observed a traffic violation and made a traffic stop in the 3000 block of 9th Street.
Sgt. Joe Bruno made contact with the driver identified as LaJames M. Bryant, 42, of Van Vleck, reports show.
While speaking with Bryant, officers observed a clear baggie containing a green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana in plain view, police said.
The driver was asked to step out of the vehicle at which time he ran, reports show.
A foot pursuit ensued.
At about 2011 hours, Bryant was found hiding under a bush.
He was taken into custody.
Officers seized a clear plastic baggie containing a white crystal-like substance, a clear baggie containing the green leafy substance, and a small clear plastic bottle with a yellow cap, containing a yellow liquid substance.
The substance was field tested and tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine, police said.
Bryant was taken to the Matagorda County Jail without incident.
He was booked in for Manufacture/Delivery of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 >= 4G <200G.
