The Bay City Police Department is dedicated to ensuring the safety and preparedness of all City employees through a proactive approach to public safety education.
As part of these efforts, BCPD conducted a training session for all city employees on the Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course, instructed by BCPD Sgt. Ruben Gutierrez.
This vital training gives civilians the knowledge and skills necessary to react effectively in an active shooter situation, police officials said.
The CRASE course, developed by the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University, is designed to educate individuals on how to respond proactively to threats in various environments.
The curriculum, based on the principles of “Avoid, Deny, and Defend,” teaches employees to assess situations quickly, take effective action to protect themselves and others, and potentially mitigate risks during critical incidents.
Through this training, the City of Bay City aims to provide all employees with the tools and confidence needed to handle high-stress situations.
“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our employees and our community,” said Police Chief Christella Rodriguez.
“By proactively educating our staff with the CRASE training, we are investing in preparedness that could save lives,” the chief said.
“The training will empower our employees to make informed decisions and act decisively should they ever find themselves in an active shooter or similar emergency situation.”
The CRASE training was held over two days and was mandatory for all city employees.
By preparing our workforce through this targeted training, the City of Bay City continues its commitment to fostering a safe, educated, and resilient community.
BCPD is committed to serving and protecting the community through integrity, professionalism, and dedication, Rodriguez noted.
“Our department works proactively to foster safety and security throughout Bay City by building community relationships and educating the public.”
