Bay City Main Street Program Manager Tina Israel said she is excited for this year’s “Christmas Around the Square” from 5-9 p.m. this Thursday, Nov. 21.
“We will have some live entertainment during the event on the southeast side of the courthouse and will have the Southern Agape food truck set up as well,” she said.
“I’m excited to see everyone come out and enjoy the festivities downtown.”
Israel added that a coat or umbrella could be necessary for the event.
“Most businesses have awnings covering the sidewalk for patrons to walk, but it is always good to bring an umbrella or coat since the event is outdoors,” she explained.
“Bay City PD will also be closely patrolling the area.”
Matagorda Regional Medical Center Foundation also will host Bay City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture’s “Business After Hours” from 5-6:30 p.m.
Matagorda County Museum’s annual “Festival of Trees” exhibit has its opening night from 5-8 p.m. Thursday.
“We have about 42 trees this year,” said Matagorda County Museum Director Cynthia Armstrong.
“Our categories this year are Businesses, Schools/Daycares, Clubs/Groups, and Individuals.
“This year, we have a three-way tie in the most decorated tree categories for Businesses, Schools/Daycares, and Clubs/Groups.”
Armstrong added that there were many returning decorators and a few new ones.
“We have several new decorators such as YMCA, Chick-fil-A, and The Lazy Chicken,” she said.
“Our opening night is free for everyone on Thursday. There will not be another free viewing and the last viewing will be Thursday, Dec. 19.”
Armstrong explained that winners in each category will be announced Friday, Dec. 20.
“We want to remind the community that with each paid visit to the museum you will be able to vote on your favorite tree,” she said.
“We will also have a stocking drawing for children 3-11 years old and you can enter your child’s name in at each paid visit. The winners for the stocking will be announced on Dec. 20 along with the ‘Festival of Tree’ winners.”
