Philip Hester said he hopes he left Matagorda County a better place than when he started.
“On December 31, 2024, I officially retired from Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office after 30 years in law enforcement and I been involved in every aspect of the Job,” Hester said in a recent Facebook post.
“From the jail to running for sheriff. I have been a clean cut patrolman, Patrol Sergeant, undercover narcotics, task force supervisor, investigator, to Lt of Criminal Investigations.
“I have proudly been a K9 handler of a dual purpose K9 handler for 20 years.
“I have had the opportunity to train 1000s of Officers in many aspects of this job from K9 tactics to Taser Certification.
“I am proud of the things I have been able to accomplish and to Skipper who have taken time to teach me.
“Skipper Osborne has been an amazing mentor, Sheriff, and friend and I have learned a lot from him, making me over all a better person.
“There is no way to list everyone who has been by my side throughout my career, but I want to thank each and everyone of you.
“I hope I left Matagorda County in a better place then when I started here.
“I am not done working, I have already started my search for my next path.
“My phone number will not change so feel free to reach out if anyone ever needs anything.
I can honestly say I have loved this career and I appreciate the support of everyone along the way!”
