Library celebrates ‘Family Place’

Bay City Public Library celebrated its "Family Place" library designation Wednesday, Jan. 15.
In 2018, the library received a grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission for the Family Place Libraries program.
With additional funding from the Bay City Library Association, BCPL Director Samantha Denbow and former Children's Specialist Andrea Savage attended a weeklong training at the  Family Place Training Institute in Centereach, New York.
In addition to this training, the library added core components of the program - a play area, parent collection, and a parent-child workshop.
This program heavily impacted how people use the library; it has become a destination for families.
The last step in the program is to be officially designated after a two-year probationary period.
