Patrol Sergeant Marino Chavez was recently on patrol and stopped a vehicle in the 4100 block of 7th Street.
Chavez checked the vehicle’s speed at 102 miles per hour in a 50 mile an hour zone.
Chavez conducted a traffic stop and then administered standardized field sobriety tests to which the driver failed, police said.
The suspect was arrested for DWI (3rd or More) after a criminal history check showed multiple previous convictions.
An intoxicated driver or a driver doing 102 mph in a 50 mph zone is dangerous to the community, police official said.
This driver posed an immediate threat to the safety and welfare of everyone on the road.
“We are thankful that Sgt. Chavez stopped this suspect. We have increased our efforts recently in the area of traffic enforcement and we understand the importance of being out in the community and on the roadways actively looking for dangers to our society.
Thank you Sgt. Chavez for a job well done!
Thank you for protecting our citizens! It is very likely you prevented a tragic crash by stopping this violator, police said.
