‘Comfortable with consistency’

‘Comfortable with consistency’

A discussion came up with a friend of mine over lunch.
We have a habit of choosing a yearly word that best describes our overall goal.
For 2025, I chose the word consistency.
The definition of consistency is - the quality of always behaving or performing in a similar way, or, of always happening in a similar way.
My friend laughed and said she’s never been consistent with anything in her life.
I assured her that we both have mastered consistency in our lives, just not with the behaviors we want to claim as consistent.
We need look no further than when we find ourselves closing in on the weekend after a stressful work week.
With my grocery list of healthy and nutritious foods in hand, my grocery cart consistently holds sweet and salty snacks, not found anywhere on my list of items.
My friend says she doesn’t grocery shop at HEB or Walmart, but instead at Spec’s Liquor.
Granted, she says they are limited in their healthy food selections, but she loves everything she purchases from there.
Yes, I’d say we both have a good working knowledge of consistency when it comes to choosing less than healthy options.
Instagram site - keyforsuccessmind came up with a lighthearted way of choosing, “How to Build a Life You Don’t Need to Escape From.”
Picture Your Ideal Life - Imagine waking up each day excited.
  That life you dream about.
  It’s closer than you think.
  Start by picturing it clearly.
  What does it look like?
  How does it feel?
Every big change starts with a clear picture.
Set Non-Negotiables - Not everything in life should be up for debate.
Decide what you won’t compromise on.
Health, relationships, time for yourself, make a list.
Create Space to Breathe - We’re not built for constant hustle.
  Make breathing space a priority.
Block out time on your calendar for nothing – yes, nothing.
Give yourself time daily to reset, even for 5 minutes.
Do Things that Fuel You - Life is too long to run on empty.
Find activities that truly fuel you.
Consider hobbies or small breaks that make you lose track of time.
Make these things a non-negotiable part of your week.
Set boundaries with People - Let’s be real - sometimes, people drain us.
  Recognize this early.
Notice who brings you peace and who doesn’t.
Practice Tiny Acts of Kindness - The fastest way to feel joy?
  Kindness, no question.
Hold a door open, leave a kind note, or pay for someone’s coffee.
Simply Your Goals - Big goals are great, but small steps get you there.
Choose three main goals for each month instead of 10.
Break each goal into daily actions.
  It’s not about doing everything.
It’s about doing what matters – consistently.
Embrace the Messiness - Nothing is perfect, and life shouldn’t be either.
Expect setbacks and moments of chaos.
Learn to find calm in the middle of it.
In other words, there’s no easy way to form new habits, but it’s a lot easier when we focus on daily consistent and realistic choices that move us in the right direction.
