Arcing electric lines are blamed for sparking a house fire at 2219 Katy Thursday, Feb. 20, Fire Marshal Dan Shook said.
Bay City Police Department, Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, and Shook responded to the blaze at about 6:30 a.m.
The homeowner recently had come home from work and was alerted to the fire by someone driving by the home who noticed the smoke and fire.
The homeowner, his girlfriend, and son all escaped without injury.
The fire was brought under control within about an hour, but crews remained on scene for about another three hours to extinguish hot spots and ensure the fire would not rekindle.
Damage was estimated at $125,000.
The fire destroyed the garage and attic, with water damage to most of the residence.
There was also smoke damage throughout the home.
No one was injured during the incident.
Shook’s preliminary investigation showed the homeowner had several electrical issues in the home, and it is believed that arcing electric lines sparked the fire.
