An engine fire destroyed a late-model pickup truck at the Walmart parking lot at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, April 18.
Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, Bay City Police Department, and the Bay City Fire Marshal were sent to a vehicle fire in the WalMart parking lot, 4600 7th St.
Fire Marshal Dan Shook was the first to arrive on scene and observed a ¾ ton pickup truck’s engine compartment on fire.
The fire department arrived on scene and quickly extinguished the fire, but the truck was a total loss, Shook said.
The vehicle was a black 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 AT4 that had just been purchased by the owner the day before.
The owner was located inside Walmart.
There were no vehicles parked near the pickup, so no other vehicles were damaged by the fire.
The value of the vehicle was $65,000, Shook said.
No one was injured during the incident.
The fire marshal performed a preliminary investigation.
The surveillance video from Wal Mart indicated the fire started about four minutes after the vehicle was parked and the owner went inside the store.
The fire marshal has listed the cause as accidental.
