Early voting in Bay City ISD, City of Bay City, Palacios ISD and City of Palacios elections began Tuesday, April 22.
Voters in the four Matagorda County jurisdictions will go to polls May 3 to vote on school trustees and city council members.
The county is under contract by Bay City ISD, City of Bay City, Palacios ISD and City of Palacios to hold the elections at two places – the Service Center in Bay City and Navigation District No. 1 in Palacios - County Clerk Stephanie Wurtz said.
Dates and times for voting are as follows:
Tuesday, April 22 – 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Wednesday, April 23 - 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Thursday, April 24 - 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Friday, April 25 - 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday, April 28 - 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Tuesday, April 29 - 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Election Day polls at the two election locations will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3.
The City of Bay City voters will elect a mayor, three council members and will consider three propositions to change the City Charter.
The city council elections include
Mayor – Incumbent Robert Nelson is unopposed.
City Council Position 3 – Incumbent Council Member Bradley B. Westmoreland is unchallenged.
City Council Position 4 has two candidates, Cory McCray and Susan M. Reardon.
Position 4 incumbent Becca Sitz is term-limited.
City Council Position 5 – incumbent Blayne Finlay is unopposed.
The City Charter proposed changes on the ballot – each with for or against options - are:
Proposition A will change council terms so that two (2) positions are up for election each year.
Proposition B will change mandatory meeting of council to one (1) time per month.
Proposition C will allow council discretion to waive residency requirement of City Manager if they reside in Matagorda County.
There are three seats up for election on the Bay City school board – two incumbents are unopposed, while a third seat has three hopefuls, including the incumbent.
Place 1 trustee Trent Tinnin is unopposed in his re-election.
Place 2 trustee James Scardami also is unchallenged.
In Place 3, incumbent Felix Nunez faces challenges from hopefuls Kenneth Eaton and Sayrah Dwight Craft.
Palacios ISD also has three seats up for election.
Dane Kubecka is unopposed for Position 3.
In Position 4, Barbara R. Adams and Brian Busby are seeking the seat.
In Place 7, Fabian Marroquin faces Adrian Rene Galvan.
Three seats are up on the Palacios City Council.
Larry Glenn is unopposed for Place 3 council member.
In Place 4, Victoria Duran and Michael Dotson face off for the council seat.
In Place 5, the election is between Kent Adams and Joe Ramirez.
