Blackcat Head Coach Robert Jones discussed Saturday morning’s “Full Pads Activated” Aug. 9, after the first full week of two-a-days, and this week’s scrimmage with Wharton.
Jones said the Saturday workout “went well. We got after it and got to see some of the young guys get some quality reps on film because they are going to have to grow up fast with all the excitement around the football team.
“I think both quarterbacks Kemarion Wiggins and Jonus Edwards played well and made great decisions and will get better day by day with more reps but it was good to see them have success,” Jones said.
“Running back Aiden Williams had a great scrimmage - replacing a four-year starter is a lot of pressure but he did great.
“Overall the defense played good, but made some mistakes.
“But, they are all correctable and will get fixed before next week against Wharton,” the coach said.
“We need to come out and be the most physical team on both sides of the ball and play with passion the entire scrimmage.
“Wharton had a new coaching staff so who knows what the will run offensively or line up in on defense but the kids will be ready especially with it being another opponent for the first since last November.
“They are eager to show everyone we are here to stay and last year was no fluke,” Jones said.
Bay City will scrimmage Wharton there next Friday, Aug. 15, at 6:30 p.m.
