Summer workouts were great. Our kids work very hard so that wasn’t a surprise,” Leopard Head Coach Shannon Permenter said about 2-a-days.
“We’ve consistently had great numbers in the summer,” he added.
Van Vleck plays UIL 2A-1 state champion Ganado Friday at home.
“Ganado has an excellent program, led by a 1st rate coaching staff and kids who are extremely tough,” Permenter said of the Ganado Indians.
“They graduated some very good players but they return several outstanding players,” the coach said.
“And winning a state championship and playing an extra 6 weeks does amazing things for the mentality of a football program.
“We expect nothing less than a difficult test,” Permenter predicted.
“We will have to play very well to win. Our kids are confident and we are a veteran team so I think it will be a great game to open up the season.
“This, in my opinion, is one of the best week 1 games in Texas every year.
“Two local teams who respect each other and no bad blood…it’s what Texas HS football is all about. We’re looking forward to it!”
