"Watching the Aggies lose, but not having to pack up" by: Mike Reddell

Friday was a tough football day for me – and many others.
First, the Bay City Blackcats lost to Davenport in a regional playoff game at Cypress-Fairbanks’ Pridgeon Stadium.
This is the team’s 13th game of the season and to come this far and lose always is a big letdown.
I am glad I’ve had the privilege of watching these young players develop.
For the seniors, I’ve been covering Bay City sports long enough that I’ve watched many of them since they were freshman – Jada Andrews was one example - just as I had followed their older brothers and relatives over the years.
Speaking of Jada, he was on the sidelines at Cy-Fair and I had the chance to visit with him.
Another familiar face Friday was Alex Estrada.
He and Jada were great football players and now they have taken their skills to the college level.
The loss to Davenport was a painful one, but I’m optimistic the Blackcats not only will be back in the playoffs, but reaching higher goals.
The other loss was watching the Aggies see their undefeated season come to an end at DKR.
Coming from a family of Aggies, I’ve watched this rivalry since I was six and my brother was a fish at A&M.
I have to admit that I’ve grown weary of watching sports on TV and have the game highlights replayed over and over.
Of course they weren’t highlights for me, but the horns seem to have a lot more mileage from their victory over us than we did when we won.
And, yes, we have won that game in history, although you wouldn’t know it.
  Sour grapes?
Sure, but this year there’s a catch.
Even with the revolting, sickening and disgusting loss, we still get to keep on playing for the national championship.
By virtue of winning 11 games, we’re going to the College Football Championship.
Now, our loss still had an impact - not having a first-round bye.
I was reading ESPN’s take on all that and, once again, the Aggies were mentioned in all sorts of ways and how their loss affected the CFP rankings.
A few moments ago (Monday night) the last thing I read, however, was ESPN projecting No. 6 A&M hosting No. 11 Virginia (ACC champ) in the first-round games Dec. 19 and 20.
All right! We’re still in the hunt at Kyle Field. Sounds reasonable to me.
