I officially got the worst and most-unexpected Christmas gift last week.
What initially started as seasonal allergies decided to take the turn for the worst and morphed into an Upper Respiratory Infection in three short days.
With an official diagnosis last Thursday afternoon, this annoying infection became the worst Christmas gift I’ve ever had.
Honestly, I think at this point it’s out-ranked my Easter battle with Flu back in college.
If it hasn’t shattered that record yet, it’s certainly shaped up to be the most annoying!
The battle against the Flu at least left me enough time to recuperate before having to endure college newspaper deadline.
This year’s infection doesn’t care about deadlines, holiday traditions or quality time spent with my siblings.
But, as it stands, I’m finishing off the last bit of my antibiotics and glad to have made mom stock up with facial tissues at Costco back in October.
I’m just hoping and praying that this round of medicine was enough to kill the infection and I don’t have any repeats any time soon.
All of that troublesome business aside, I did get a much-needed and exciting Christmas gift ahead of the actual family variety.
And this gift is something most of our readers will probably notice, too.
I got my hands on a new pair of glasses and am looking forward to a few minor adjustments at an eyeglass kiosk before being able to see much more clearly than I have in the past year.
Of course, it’s also a sign of adulthood to get excited about new eyeglasses, right?
By that I’m saying new eyeglasses aren’t always something we want to receive or purchase as an adult when there are other, more fun options available to us, but I’m genuinely thrilled to have them in hand before Christmas Day rolls around.
Besides, what other options are there?
I mean, I tried contacts once upon a time and that didn’t work out well because they dried out my eyes and made them far too itchy.
Lasik is a far-off target for the most part, but at the same time, I’m leery of taking the steps to get it done.
After all, I’ve had eyeglasses since the third grade and I don’t know how long it’d take for me to consistently recognize myself in the mirror or to not constantly reach for my glasses first thing in the morning.
Still, I’m remaining optimistic about my new eyeglasses in the meantime.
I mean, since my signature beloved purple hair dye has been discontinued then at least I can rock a pair of semi-transparent purple-tinted eyeglasses, right?
Plus, I splurged a little extra on Transition lenses so sunlight won’t try to burn my retinas and I can still manage to take photos outside.
Well, that’s the goal at least – we’ll just have to wait and see how they perform in the field at a later time.
If we were having a repeat of 2004’s Christmas, I could test them against snow – but, alas, that is a memory of Christmas Past and nothing we’ll be gifted with anytime soon.
