From Fire Marshal’s office
A shed used as a closet and office caught fire Saturday, Jan. 10.
The Bay City Volunteer Fire Department, Bay City Police Department, and Bay City Fire Marshal’s Office responded to a report of a fire at 2300 Oak Dr. about noon Saturday.
The fire was discovered by a female resident who noticed smoke in the area while on the front porch, Fire Marshal Daniel Shook said.
The female called 9-1-1 while her husband looked for the source of the smoke.
The husband found the shed on fire.
The fire department arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. The shed had a large amount of clothing, as it was used as a walk-in closet.
The fire department remained on scene to remove all the clothing and ensure there was no rekindle to the fire.
The total loss from the fire is estimated at $35,000, due to the large amount of clothing as well as an office.
Shook investigated the cause of the fire and found that the origin was in the area of an extension cord that was used to power multiple electrical devices.
