Celebrating others

In Other Words....

Any time we’re acknowledged for our hard work and achievements, it’s time to celebrate!
It’s easy for us to remember how much time, effort and patience went into the recognition of a job well done.
When family, friends and co-workers are recognized by accolades of achievement, our celebratory nature may not be as highly calibrated as when we are in the limelight.
The simple truth is we have no idea what obstacles and challenges others must endure before they receive their own recognition.
Why not think of all of us as winners?
In past articles I’ve discussed learning to run your own race rather than measuring your worth through competition with others.
Once we evolve to this level of thinking, we can celebrate everyone’s accomplishments wholeheartedly.
Author Jacqueline Walker in her article 5 Reasons to Celebrate the Success of Others explains why we should be happy for others:
We need each other to succeed.
“I was a spectator at a youth gymnastics event and watched how the young ladies, pushed to do well on their own, but still congratulated each other’s performances.
It spoke to me as a perfect example of team dynamics - when one wins, we all win.”
It motivates you to strive for your own personal success.
“When someone else reaches their target, it should fill us with hope and possibility. Their success stands as a testament to us that we too can fulfill our dreams.
“If they can do it, then we can too.”
You care about the person and want to maintain your bond.
“When we love and care about someone, we want to see them succeed.
“We never want to see them fail or fall short of their goals.”
It can open doors for you through networking and referrals.
“A big part of gaining success is tied to networking and making connections with key people or organizations that are in the field in which we are seeking to achieve.
“This means we need to meet individuals and build relationships to help us along our journey towards success.”
Keeping a positive attitude elevates you.
“Our attitude, demeanor, and personality contribute significantly to our ability to succeed.
“Knowledge, talent, and hard work are important factors in getting there. But regardless of our familiarity with information, our skill level, and work ethic, many times we fail because of that one wild card - attitude!”
If you’re still not sold on why it’s necessary to celebrate others, author and motivational speaker Kelly Croy brings science into the discussion.
“Researchers are finding that people who celebrate others are more grateful, happier, and have lower stress levels. They reduce the stress created by false needs, and the unhealthy emphasis society places on competing with others. Set an example and leave a legacy,” said Croy. April 17,2015
In other words, we have so much to be grateful for as we find our footing in 2026.
Celebrate being your best self and embracing the best in others.
