The Coastal Plains District of Scouting America celebrated the dedication, leadership, and service of its volunteers, families, and outstanding Scouts during the recent 5th Annual Coastal Plains District Awards Dinner in Rosenberg.
The annual event recognizes individuals and families whose impact has strengthened Scouting and youth development across Fort Bend County and surrounding communities.
Among the evening’s highest honors was the Walter Lamar Evans Lifetime of Service Award, presented to for decades of leadership and mentorship across the district.
In addition to many years of service at the district level — including supporting and mentoring unit leaders in Palacios and neighboring communities - McGehearty currently serves Pack 1545F, Troop 0045B, and Troop 0145G, all based in Bay City.
The award, named in honor of Eagle Scout Walter Lamar Evans and his lifetime of dedication to Scouting, recognizes individuals who demonstrate an enduring commitment to youth at every level of the program.
Additional honors presented during the evening included Coastal Plains Awards, Certificates of Volunteering Excellence, Unit Service Awards, Commissioner Awards, and Certificates of Appreciation for individuals and organizations whose continued support strengthens Scouting across the district.
Scouting America’s Coastal Plains District serves more than 800 youth in collaboration with 15 school districts in Austin, Matagorda, and parts of Fort Bend Counties.
It does so by delivering programs focused on leadership development, outdoor adventure, service, and character formation — all made possible by dedicated volunteers, families, and community partners.
