As of press time Monday afternoon, the weekend forecast features plenty of sun, a light breeze and temperatures in the mid-to-low 80s.
In fact, the weather is perfect starting on Thursday, April 23, and there are a few events happening then to help kick off your weekend.
The Bay City Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture and Bay City Cemetery Association host a ribbon-cutting event starting at 4 p.m. Thursday at Cedarvale Cemetery, 2293 Golden Avenue.
The event highlights the cemetery’s completed expansion project.
Matagorda Regional Medical Center Foundation’s “Power of the Purse: Under the Big Top” fundraiser returns from 6-8 p.m. April 23, at the Bay City Civic Center, 201 7th St.
Advance tickets are available online at matagrodaregional.ejoinme.org/pop and start at $40 per person.
There will also be tickets available for purchase at the door.
All catered food and drink options are included in the ticket price.
New and gently used purses are included in the live and silent auctions and this year also features a “Fortune Teller Booth” to keep with the circus theme.
Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the purchase of new sterile processors for the Surgical Services Department.
Downtown Bay City Market Day is from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday, April 25, around the Matagorda County Courthouse square in downtown Bay City.
This monthly event features a variety of handmade and wholesale décor, food vendors, and more.
The annual City of Bay City “Annual Spring Clean-up” is from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the WCJC Parking Lot, 4000 Ave. F.
The site is open to all Bay City residents with proof of residency, your water bill and/or a driver’s license.
Items accepted include: furniture, mattresses, household trash, Freon-free appliances, and a limit of 8 scrap tires per household.
Brush and tree limbs must be taken to the brush site on Skelly Road and recycling trailers will be on site.

Bay City Parks & Recreation Department’s annual “Rally on the River” event will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 25 at Riverside Park, 7330 FM 2668 in Bay City.
Kayaks and canoes are welcome and life jackets are required to participate in the free event.
There will also be Game Wardens and River Rangers on the water.
The event is free and open to the public with no “day-use fee” applicable.
If you aren’t keen on paddling or floating along the 8-mile river trail, then try your hand at fishing, flying a kite or playing one of several games on land.
Holy Cross Catholic School’s annual “Spring Bazaar” starts serving meals at 11a.m. Sunday, April 26, at Knights of Columbus Hall, 193 Columbus Road, in Bay City.
Lunches catered by K2 Steakhouse are $15 per plate and feature chicken-fried chicken, two sides, tea, and a dessert.
There is also a variety of children’s games, country store, raffle, and live auction.
