Matagorda County Sheriff’s deputies worked with a U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Task Force to track down a wanted felon in the Sargent area, Captain Chris Hadash said.
A warrant out of Pittsburgh County, in Oklahoma, sought 56-year-old Leon Hendry out of that state, for failing to appear in court for kidnapping, trafficking in illegal drugs and possession of a firearm in commission of felony, Hadash said.
“He had a single Fail to Appear warrant and those were the original charges,” he added.
The Task Force came across information the man was in the Sargent. Lt. Orr and Sgt. Majors of the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division were able to get “eyes on” the felon’s vehicle and location.
The US Marshal Service leads 58 local fugitive forces.
It tracks people on the run who are considered armed and dangerous, Hadash explained.
The man’s locale was believed to be in the FM 457 – FM 521 area.
Lt. Orr and Sgt. Major saw the felon in the suspect vehicle.
Lt. Nash and Deputy Henley of the patrol division made a coordinated felony traffic stop at 1:46 p.m. April 27.
“We got a felony stop and took him into custody with incident,” Hadash said.
The man was in Matagorda County custody awaiting transport, Hadash added.
