VICTORIA — The YMCA of the Golden Crescent is pleased to announce the hiring of Andy Weighill as Chief Executive Officer. Weighill will succeed longtime YMCA CEO William “Bud” Oliver, who retires this summer, after years of dedicated leadership and service to the community.
The YMCA of the Golden Crescent Board of Directors conducted a comprehensive search process to identify its next leader and is confident that Weighill’s experience and vision will continue to advance the organization’s mission.
The YMCA of the Golden Crescent serves families and individuals throughout the Golden Crescent region, including Palacios, Bay City, Gonzales, Edna, and Port Lavaca.
Weighill said, “I’m honored to join the YMCA of the Golden Crescent and to serve alongside our dedicated staff team, volunteers, board members and community partners who make this organization so important to the communities we impact.
“The Y has a remarkable legacy of strengthening the community in our service area and I look forward to listening, learning, and working together to ensure that every person has the chance to reach their full potential.
“The future is bright, and I am excited to help build on the YMCA’s strong foundation of service and impact throughout the Crossroads area.”
Weighill brings more than two decades of experience within the YMCA movement, with a proven track record of organizational growth, community partnership development, and strategic leadership across multiple markets nationwide.
A native of Detroit, Michigan, Weighill moved to Victoria from Tavares, Florida where he most recently served as Vice President of Growth and Community Partnerships with the Central Florida YMCA.
In this role, he led major public and private partnership initiatives, including the development of large-scale YMCA facilities and securing significant multi-year funding commitments to expand community access and services.
Weighill began his YMCA career in 2001 as Youth Program Director for the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit.
Over the years, he has held several leadership roles across the country, including Associate Executive Director in Atlanta and Executive Director roles in Florida.
During his tenure as Chief Executive Officer of the Central Coast YMCA from 2016 to 2022, Weighill led significant organizational growth.
Under his leadership, the YMCA increased its operating budget from $5.3 million to $9 million, expanded membership from 7,000 to 15,000 individuals, and grew program outreach from 26,000 to 40,000 community members.
He has also overseen major capital projects, strengthened community partnerships, and implemented strategic programming focused on improving public health and addressing critical community needs.
Weighill holds a Bachelor of Arts in History Education and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Huron University in South Dakota.
