Bay City ends its season this Friday hosting Stafford, the district’s second-place team.
The Blackcats are coming off a 56-12 loss to Needville there Friday night (Oct. 29).
Needville poured it on the Blackcats with 524 total yards of offense, while Bay City did itself no favors with five turnovers.
Freshman running back Jada Andrews had the main rushing chore for the Blackcats, as he churned out 58 yards on 13 carries.
Ayden Smith had 38 yards on six carries.
Smith’s major contribution was two touchdown catches for Bay City.
Smith caught a nine-yard scoring pass from quarterback Joe Davalos with 2:16 left in the second quarter.
Davalos found Smith again on a touchdown pass with 1:28 left in the game.
PATs after both touchdowns failed.
The Blackcats had 211 total yards of offense, as Davalos was 13 of 29 for 128 yards passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Bay City also lost three fumbles.
Defensively, Bay City sophomore defensive end Carlon Jones had a team-high 11 tackles, followed by Smith, with seven tackles, and Brice Turner, who had six tackles.
“The game did not go to plan. We had five turnovers and they capitalized on every one of them,” said Blackcat Head Coach Robert Jones.
“We constantly turn the ball over and have blown assignments, but we will definitely learn from this season with all the young guys we have playing on Friday nights,” he added.
“Stafford (5-4, 3-1) is the second-place team in district and has a great defense so we will have our hands full Friday night.
“We will have to control the clock and take care of the football if we want to be successful.
“It’s my job to get this program rolling again and we will start working towards next season the Monday after the Stafford game,” Jones said.
Stafford is coming off a 20-12 win over Brazosport last Friday.
Its leading rusher is Jamaal Wiley, with 150 carries for 914 yards, for a six-yard, per-carry average, and 12 touchdowns.
Stafford averages 190 yards rushing per game and 82 yards passing.
