Van Vleck had 200 yards rushing and 110 yards passing to defeat Brazos 43-7 there last Friday night, Oct. 29.
The Leopards (6-3, 4-0) will next turn to District 14-3A-2 leader East Bernard this Friday at Van Vleck.
Head Coach Rodney Dowell spread out the rushing chores among several players.
Lep Brett Noster had a team-high 70 yards rushing on eight carries and a touchdown.
Cam Austin had 48 yards on nine carries and three touchdowns.
Sam Brooks had a 23-yard touchdown run.
Van Vleck quarterback Payton Brown was eight of 13 for 110 yards passing, with a touchdown and an interception.
Bryson Blackmon had three receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown.
“The Brazos game was a good test for our kids because we were coming off an emotional win over Tidehaven,” Dowell said.
“So I was proud of our kids,” he added.
“Currently both we and East Bernard are tied for the ‘district lead’ and both teams are undefeated in district and whoever wins this game will be the district champions.
“So it is nice to have the district title go through Burl McKinney Stadium in Van Vleck.
“We are honored to play East Bernard who is a tradition-rich program and once this game is over we will be pulling for them in the playoffs,” Dowell pointed out.
“Looks like our second place will most likely play Lexington who will be third place.
“Then our first place team will play the winner of the Riesel vs. Buffalo game,” Dowell said.
“All of those teams have unique challenges and we will have to break the film down to see where we can fit in, but after Friday we will know.”
East Bernard (8-1, 4-0) is coming off a 31-10 victory over Tidehaven last Friday, Oct. 29.
Brahma quarterback Dallas Novicke had thrown for 1,186 yards this season with 15 touchdowns.
On the rushing side, East Bernard has spread the yards among four main ball carries, with Braydon Lemos running for a team-high 333 yards this year.
