"Bay City has off week to get things straight for district Oct. 1" by: Mike Reddell

Bay City - and most other area high school teams - will have a open date this Friday and a chance to straighten out problems before District 12-4A-1 play begins Friday, Oct. 8.
Bay City (2-2) stands in third, or midway, in the district, behind El Campo (4-1) and Columbia (3-1.)
Stafford and Needville are (2-3) and Brazosport (1-3).
Last Friday, Bay City fell to non-district opponent Sealy, 38-14, while El Campo routed Boerne-Champion 56-6 and Bellville put up lopsided numbers in defeating Columbia 36-6.
This week, Bay City Head Coach Robert Jones is putting the Blackcats through their paces for two weeks preparing for Brazosport at home Oct. 7.
Jones was asked about the 14-point loss to Sealy here last Friday.
“Yes sir it was a tough loss when we are making some of the same mistakes every week, but we will keep practicing hard and try to fix them but the kids are giving all they got and that’s all I can ask for,” Jones said at the start of this week.
Jones called on Bay City kicker Victor Morales, who missed a field goal attempt last week.
“Yes, Morales has a good leg and I will give him a shot every time we get in that situation.”
Morales has proven that with a consitent PAT average and booming kicks for touchbacks.
“The passing game picked up this week but we had a setback on the rushing game.
“We have to have both clicking at the same time if we want to be successful and make a playoff run.”
Jones was asked about the Oct. 8 game here with Brazosport, where Jones coached before coming to Bay City.
“It’s always fun to play Brazosport I still know everyone of the kids, so I know they will bring their ‘A’ game but if it’s one game that I bring a little extra juice it’s them,” he noted.
“We will have our best lineman back, Glenn Idhe, so it should help our run game tremendously.”
In addition, Jones said freshman running back Jada Andrews’ hamstring should be healed, with having the week off, so trust me we will be ready to go in two weeks against Brazosport.”
Against the Tigers, Bay City had a total of 175 yards offense that included 40 rushing yards and 146 aerial yards.
Junior running back Ayden Smith had both rushing and receiving touchdowns last week.
More importantly Smith had both of the touchdowns against Sealy, including a fourth quarter 42-yard pass catch (3 catches for 47 yards) and a dazzling full horizontal stretch for one-yard lunge for a second quarter score.
Morales booted both PATs after the touchdowns.
On defense Karius Luster had a game high 7 tackles - six were unassisted - and a sack.
Carlon Jones had six total tacklers.
