Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio assessed the Tigers’ first week of workouts and the upcoming scrimmage with Shiner.
“Two-a-days have been a success to this point,” Lucio said.
“We had our first live action on Saturday (Aug. 9). We saw some great things, and few things we need to work on,” Lucio added.
“Conditioning is something we will continue to work on. For the first week, we are not in bad shape, but we are not ready for four quarters yet,” he said.
“Our two young running backs looked good in the intra-squad scrimmage. Julian Stockton and Noah Riddick had some good carries, they made me feel a lot better about the position,” Lucio noted.
“We still have a few players battling for the defensive end positions.
“Hayden McCarver and Alex Torres got a lot of reps and looked solid.”
Talking about this week’s scrimmage, Lucio said Shiner is ranked No. 1 in most rankings in 2A-D2.
“They will give us a great look. Things we will be looking for is good pursuit and tackling on defense,” Lucio explained.
“Shiner is an option team, so our kids will have to play with a lot of discipline.
“It will give us a chance to get a look at the work our defensive ends and linebacker have been putting in.
“Offensively, we will look to see which runningback is ready to take the lead role. We will try not to get too carried away, neither team has anything to prove.
“That being said, iron sharpens iron, so we will be strapping our helmets on a little tighter than normal.
