   Championship game and tournament notes
“Our tournament was a huge success,” said Van Vleck Head Coach Billy Ramey.
“There were some well-coached teams and talented players.
“I am very proud of how our team played and it’s an honor to win such a competitive tournament,” he added.
“Our game against Wharton was exactly what we needed.
“It was a physical game that required us to play to our strengths and come together as a team,” he pointed out.
“Our defense continues to develop and grow.
“Defense, rebounding, mental toughness, and execution make us who we are,” he said.
“Peyton Huerta’s defense and rebounding were amazing all-tournament.
“He is also starting to find his scoring groove.
“Micah Burks is getting better and better as the season progresses. He always rebounds and is our second leading scorer and his defense has improved a lot.
“Peyton and Micah’s ability to block and alter shots has been a blessing.
“Corey Austin is simply dominating and he was clearly the best player in our tournament.
Ramey said that Austin scored a game-high 21 points and finished 9-9 from the FT line in the championship game.
“Against Bay City, he scored a game-high 30 points (30 of our 50).
“I am so proud of our depth.  Everyone came off of the bench and contributed.”
