"The carnival: One more chance to remember childhood" by Jessica Shepard

   The carnival opens this week at the Matagorda County Fairgrounds. I managed to catch a glimpse of some of the leg work Tuesday.
   It was just enough to jog old memories and nostalgic feelings.
   I remember when I waited for what seemed like years to get out to the carnival. 
   Riding the rides, going on the Ferris wheel with my parents or siblings and the carnival games were amazing!
   For one night twice a year I could smell funnel cakes and have cotton candy melt in my mouth.
   It was the ultimate escape from everyday living. Even when I was that young, I knew that nights spent at the carnival were full of magic.
