For an example of how much local individuals and groups step up and help youngsters, look to the junior livestock auction at the Matagorda County Fair & Livestock Show (MCFLS) this year.
This year’s auction sales total was $445,850, without add-ons. Add-ons allow show buyers to add to their sale price, an additional boost for the youngsters’ show animal income.
Add-ons will be accepted through Friday.
The top auction animal was the grand champion steer shown by Karly Brown of Helping Hand 4-H. the steer brought an auction sale price of $11,500 – again without add-ons.
“I thought the show did real well,” said Dan Pustka, Precinct 1 county commissioner.
