Markham VFD: Not interested in county firefighting contract

Markham volunteer firefighters are unwilling to sign a firefighting agreement with Matagorda County and discussions over the contract made little progress at the commissioners’ court meeting Monday morning.
There have been no hitches with several Matagorda County volunteer fire departments that signed the agreement for fiscal year 2015-2016. Each department is paid $1,800 for the fiscal year.
But Markham Volunteer Fire Department’s (MVFD) 14 members indicated 10 problems they have with the county’s firefighting contract.
The 10 disputed areas were listed in a letter to County Judge Nate McDonald and signed by Markham Fire Chief William Parks Jr.
