Bomb squad explodes beach object

A suspicious cylinder with a danger warning was found by a citizen on Matagorda Beach Sunday, and later destroyed by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The citizen was walking on Matagorda Beach about six miles from the entrance and “found a cylindrical object (photo at left) that appeared to have washed up on shore,” the sheriff’s office report show.
The object’s warning read: “Do not handle, contains Phosphorus.  May cause serious burns. Notify Police Dept. or Military if found.”
The citizen contacted the sheriff’s office to report the object and Sheriff Skipper Osborne was notified and went to the beach.
