Jake Roberts receives Texas Award for Valor

   Matagorda County Sheriff Deputy J.A. “Jake” Roberts received the State of Texas Award for Valor during ceremonies are the state capitol in Austin June 12.  
   A short version of the incident is as follows:
   On February 25, 2014, Roberts responded to a one-vehicle accident on FM 1728, in which the car was on fire and the driver was trapped and unresponsive.  
   Without regard for his own safety, Roberts managed to wrench open one of the car doors and extract the driver, saving her life. 
   County Sheriff Frank “Skipper” Osborne attended the presentation, along with Patrol Capt. Monty Mozley, and Capt. Steve Baker.
