Matagorda County residents converged on HEB, above, and other stores to stock up on supplies.

Bill became a tropical storm just before making landfill near Port O’Connor shortly before noon Tuesday, June 16.
Bearing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and bringing multiple rain bands, Bill quickly flooded low-lying Matagorda County coastal areas near Matagorda and Sargent.
The wind and rain pounded the coastal areas giving drivers the dual problem of visibility while navigating over rain-slick roads.
