Boil Blast features food, fun

People attending the Fifth Annual Boil Blast Saturday in Matagorda will get way more food than they pay for, along with contests and an impressive entertainment lineup.
The gates open at 10 a.m. - $5 gets people in – and a heaping helping of boiled shrimp, corn, potatoes and sausage will cost $10.
“You’ll get way more than $10 worth,” said Buddy Treybig, a member of Matagorda Charities Inc. that puts on the Boil Blast in the fall and the Seafood Fest in the spring.
Saturday’s event is officially titled, the 5th Annual Matagorda Day Boil Blast.
The long-standing observation of Matagorda Day In October by the Matagorda Historical Society recognizes the community’s history that dates 10 years before the 1836 Texas Revolution.
The Seafood Fest Committee and Matagorda Historical Society merged the two fall events in a recent years, Treybig said.
The Boil Blast’s launch was encouraged by the spring Seafood Fest, he noted.
Contests on tap Saturday include a morning schedule of horseshoes and washer contest at 11 a.m. and corn hole at 11:30 a.m.
That afternoon men’s shrimp eating contest will be at 1 p.m., for $25 per person, followed by women’s shrimp eating contest, also $25 each.
