Thirteen Bay City Junior High Panther Band students have qualified for All-Region Band, with two others being named alternates.
Competition was Nov. 7 at Stafford High School.
A total of 38 BCJH band students competed.
Over 800 students from the region auditioned for the approximately 75 spots available in one of three bands.
According to BCJH Band Director Charles Herber, the All-Region auditions are important for aspiring musicians.
“The music they learn for these auditions is much more demanding on an individual level than most of the band music they will play. This increases their proficiency and musical independence.
“All of this helps them when learning new music, sight reading, and performing with others. Plus, although the audition is stressful for many kids, they also learn poise and develop confidence. These are attributes that will help them throughout life,” Herber said.
Jacob Harmon, also a band director at BCJH, added, “To have their skill as a musician based off of a few measures of music can be nerve-racking for the students, but they pulled through and showed the judges what they can do.  I am proud of everyone who auditioned.”
