Tidehaven band makes big strides by advancing to area

   After this summer’s national controversies over the Confederate battle flag, Tidehaven High School’s husband and wife band director team almost decided to change their plans for their 2015 marching season show commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the United States Civil War.
   But they didn’t change anything.
   And the band capped its competitive marching season in Fredericksburg Oct. 28 with a performance that almost qualified the group for the State Contest.
   “I wish everyone could have been in Fredericksburg that night because our finals performance we gave was probably the best performance the band has given in the two-and-a-half years that Daisy and I have been here,” director James Edwards told the TISD school board recently.
    “It was just easily, not even close, the very best performance I have ever heard the Tidehaven band do.”
