Grace Ann (Brandes) Mariner, 58, of Bay City, Texas died Saturday, January 2, 2016, after a brief struggle with brain cancer.
Grace was born September 10, 1957 in El Campo, Texas, to Alfred and Ann Brandes.
She graduated from El Campo High School in 1976 and then attended Wharton County Junior College.
At a dance at the Knights of Columbus Hall in El Campo, Grace met the love of her life, Mike Mariner.
Mike and Grace were married on March 3, 1979, and made their home in Bay City for the past 37 years.
The couple has one daughter, Kaylyn Renee.
Grace worked for a time at the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Department in the Criminal Investigation Division, but for the past 23 years, she worked at Champion Turf, where she enjoyed working in the position of office manager.
She was also a parishioner at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City.
Grace enjoyed numerous activities that included competitive barrel racing and riding her horse “Dixie.”
She also enjoyed taking extra special care of the family dog, Ricky.
When Grace was not busy with work or with her beloved pets, she enjoyed working in the yard and caring for her beautiful flowerbeds.
She loved watching sports and was an avid fan of the Fightin’ Texas Aggies, the Houston Astros, and the Houston Texans.
Grace enjoyed planning trips to see firework displays during special holidays.
But what gave Grace the most joy in her life, was spending time with family and especially her three grandchildren.
Grace was a special person as a wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
She was never heard saying a harsh word about anyone.
Grace’s smile and beautiful face will be missed by many, but most especially by her family, friends, co-workers and anyone she ever met through her many associations with church, girls’ softball and other organizations she supported.
Grace is survived by: her husband, Mike Mariner of Bay City; their daughter, Kaylyn Renee (Mariner) Strickland and her husband Dustin, with their three children, Jackson Dustin, age 8, London Grace, age 6, and Allison Renee, age 2, all of San Antonio, Texas.
