"Leopards clinch playoff berth with shutout of Sharks" By John Hoffman Special to the Sentinel

Van Vleck scored in every quarter for a convincing 40-0 win over the Palacios Shark last Friday.
Van Vleck came into the contest with a three-game losing streak and were looking to turn things around.
With the win, Van Vleck finishes District 14-3A-1 play at 3-3 and secured the final district playoff spot due to its head-to-head win over Rice Consolidated, who lost to Edna last week.
The Leopards struck on their first offensive possession after forcing a Palacios three and out. Taking over at their own 45-yard line, Van Vleck quarterback ZeyVaunte Easton found a streaking Khorean Perry wide open down the middle for a 45-yard touchdown.
The extra point was no good, but Van Vleck was up 6-0 with 8:54 left in the first quarter.
The Palacios offense could not find any running room, as the Leopard defense stuffed the Shark ground game.
Van Vleck went back to work late in the first quarter from its own 20-yard line.
A couple of nice runs by De’Mitri Monroe and Malik Mitchell moved the Leopards to the Palacios 33-yard line.
Another Easton-to-Perry pass on the next play gave Van Vleck a first down from the Shark 15.
Monroe took it in three plays later with a direct snap on the first play of the second quarter for the touchdown.
Easton’s 2-point pass to Tyriek McMarrion was good, and Van Vleck was up 14-0 with 11:58 left in the first half.
