"BCCDC purchases 2 lots near downtown " by: Mike Reddell

Two lots totaling about half of an acre in size at Avenue F and Fifth Street were purchased for $100,000 as possible added downtown parking space by the Bay City Community Development Corporation (BCCDC) board Monday night.
BCCDC’s purchase of the two lots is part of a proposed partnership with city council to provide more parking for downtown events, such as January’s Camofest, BCCDC Executive Director D.C. Dunham told the board.
“There are lots of downtown activities” that would benefit from the nearby parking the lots could provide, said BCCDC Board Member Bill Cornman.
Dunham also noted that properties “were not on the market at that price.
“This also is an opportunity to hold on to in case something comes along and offer this,” she said.
The next step, Dunham said, was to get city council approval to amend the BCCDC budget to include the property purchase.
The two lots at the northwest corner of Fifth and the Texas 60 (Avenue F) intersection – next to John Dickerson’s Edward Jones Investment business - were purchased from Herf Cornelius.
