Van Vleck senior quarterback ZeyVaunte Easton (3) picks up yardage on a keeper against Mathis.

PORT LAVACA – The Van Vleck Leopards picked up where they left off last week, scoring on their first offensive play of the night, and never looked back in a convincing 48-18 area playoff win over the Mathis Pirates.
With the win, Van Vleck moves to the regional semifinals and a rematch with district foe Yoakum. The Bulldogs (11-1) beat the Leopards 49-12 in Week 9 of the regular season.
The game will be played at 6 p.m. Saturday at Legacy Stadium in Katy.
Van Vleck (6-4) took the opening kickoff and went immediately to running back De’Mitri Monroe, who had a 7-touchdown performance against Marion last week.
Monroe ran a sweep, found a hole, and outraced the Mathis defenders for a 66-yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked, but Van Vleck was up 6-0 with just 12 seconds into the contest.
Mathis went on the offensive and had their best drive of the night. The Pirates used a quick-hitting ground game to get deep into Leopard territory.
With first down at the Van Vleck 17-yard line, the Leopard defense stepped up, as linebacker Easton Brown jumped on a Pirate fumble to end the threat.
The turnover turned into points quickly, as the Leopards scored on their next play.
Once again Monroe got the call, taking the handoff, racing around the right side, and outrunning the Mathis defense down the right sideline for an 80-yard touchdown.
