Tidehaven Head Coach David Lucio has got the matchup he envisioned a couple week back – before his Tigers defeated Skidmore-Tynan in the area playoff last Friday.
This Friday night’s feature presentation will be No. 6 Tidehaven (11-0) vs. No. 1 Lexington (12-0), with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Hallettsville.
The Tigers are coming off a 58-29 victory over the Skidmore-Tynan Bobcats last Friday in Port Lavaca, while Lexington defeated Odem 33-13 in that area playoff.
Tidehaven’s marquee matchup will have two of the state’s top rushers – Tiger senior Jeffery Williams and Lexington junior Ja’kobe Cooper.
Williams has 1,837 yards on the season, while Cooper has 2,796 yards on the ground.
“I like our chances. We are a little banged up but for the most part all our starters should be back for this game,” Lucio said.
“Our kids seem to be real focused so I feel like we have  great shot at the upset.  Both our teams have been cruising through our schedules lately, so I think whoever comes with a fight to the death attitude will take the victory.
“Their quarterback and runningback our special players, so we must tackle well, and tackle hard.”
