"Lots of new events on tap for Camofest Weekend " by: Mike Reddell

   The committee planning the 3rd Annual Wild Game and Wine Camofest downtown Jan. 26-27 went through this year’s list of events that include several new additions at the group’s meeting Monday, Jan. 8.
   New to this year’s Camofest:

  •     The “Wolf Moon Concert” from 8 to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, kicks off the two-day Camofest weekend.

   Sponsored by the Matagorda County Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), the Wolf Moon Concert – headlined by the Emotions - will be the first of four concerts in 2018.

  •     Matagorda County Museum’s art exhibit featuring the works of Bay City native Forrest Bess, who is credited with helping develop camouflage during World War II.

   There will be 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, reception at the museum in conjunction with the exhibit.
   The exhibit will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

  •     A 3-D archery tournament, The Camofest Shoot Out, will be at the City of Bay City’s Riverside Park, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26. There will be a $90 tournament entry fee.
  •     Serve Outdoors’ skeet shoot will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at the Cajun Ragin & Sports Club, at 1499 FM 2431, which is just west of Markham. There is a $50 entry fee for the shoot. 
  •     Another Saturday morning event will be the Boy Scout Troop 45 Camofest Challenge Course for youngsters at the Matagorda County Birding Nature Center (MCBNC). 

   The course – from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27 - will be for ages 8-14. There will be a $5 MCBNC nature trail fee. 

  •     A Duck Calling Contest will start the same time that Camofest opens at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27.

   This year’s Camofest will add another hour to the event, going from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.
   As for food, well there is the Wild Game Food Camp, with 11 wild game booths.
   Camofest features a wide selection of beer and wines.
   There are eight wineries participating this year.
   Camofest’s live music includes Texas Joe Bailey & Sweet Leaf Junction and Jon Stork.
   The Bay City Art League will have children’s art activities in Camofest’s Kid’s Zone.
   In addition, there will be an appearance by Davy Crockett, portrayed by his Bay City descendent, David Crockett.
   And don’t miss the live auction.
