A 20-year-old Bay City man was charged with DWI and endangering his seven-month-old child after crashing the car he was driving into a mobile home on 7th Street early Sunday morning, June 3, the Bay City Police Department reported.
The child was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston as a precaution, due to a head injury, the reports show.
Jordan C. Williams, 20, of Bay City, was treated and released from Matagorda Regional Medical Center, then taken to Matagorda County Jail where he was booked on Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger and Abandon/Endanger a Child Imminent Danger of Bodily Injury, police said.
Officer Reyna Perez was sent to 51 7th Street in reference to a vehicle crashing into a mobile home and, en route, he was told the driver was on site with a small child, at about 4 a.m. Sunday, June 3.
Perez met with the driver, reporting that the man and the child both appeared to have facial injuries.
In addition, the officer reported the suspect strongly smelled of alcohol on his breath and body.
The man said he had been traveling too fast on the gravel road and lost control of the vehicle causing him to crash.
He also told officers he had the child in the car seat, but the seat was not fastened nor was the child buckled into the child safety seat.
